A Year

August 26, 2011 by Elaine

It was a year since he had seen her.

And now here she was, holding a baby, about 3 months old.

He looked into his own eyes as he approached.

I wrote this for this prompt from Write On Edge:
Let’s lighten it up around here. And when I say lighten, I mean REALLY lighten.

This week’s assignment will require the fewest number of words ever: we want you to write a story – your choice of topic – as a tweet.

That’s right. One hundred and forty characters. Not words. Characters.

Make us laugh. Make us think. Make us want more.

I love how this told a story, and yet made me even more curious.

Small piece of concrit: most guys have no idea how to tell how old a baby is, especially if they’ve never raised one, and the size ranges between the top 90% and the lower 5% or preemie are huge.

So I think it would’ve been more believeable to phrase it, “holding a small baby” instead of an actual age.

Nit picky thing: same thing about the eyes – as they often change color at that age. I know what you’re going for though, so maybe make it about the shape of the eyes, or of another facial feature?

Hard to do in 140 characters, I know.

But I want to know the story. Darn it. You have completely intrigued me, and I can almost see the drool…
