A few years ago I bought some cute little wooden pieces of art. One has a lovely bird and the other has white angel-like wings and the letters F L Y. I am not a huge fan of actual birds (except maybe the gorgeous cardinals present around the trees in my yard) but I love pretty artwork of birds. They can be very beautiful and for me, there’s something about delicate wings and feathers. When I bought these items I thought I would do some sort of wall art collage with them and a few other things I had at home. That never happened and I ended up just using these pieces decoratively around my house; one on a bookshelf and the other on a desk in my office.
The word FLY means a lot to me at this time in my life. It relates to my personal life, my work (Take Flight Social Media) and my continued story. And, as we all know, we must have wings to fly…
Yesterday was the end of something great in my life. And when I use the word “great” I mean it in this sense: “important; highly significant or consequential”. My marriage is now legally over. I mourn a little, because in a way it is also the end of an era in my life. For me, those 20 years of us together were exactly what you read above in bold. Of course THE most significant thing to come out of our time as a couple, are my three extraordinary children.
Yesterday people were hesitant to say “Congratulations” but I am okay with that word because I congratulate myself as well. Going through divorce is hard no matter how you look at it, but I also know that I am blessed because of all the people in my life who have surrounded me with love and support through this time, even, in some ways, the kids’ father.
So I look at it this way, my wings are no longer clipped. They have grown back, more vibrant and full. I am now free to fly wherever I want. Will clouds and storms appear on my flights? Probably so, but that is in any life. What gives me hope is the current clear blue skies, full of possibilities and new paths and the fact that I am open to them all.
“I’m gonna run and not grow weary,
I’m gonna walk and not grow faint,
Rise up on wings like eagles to soar
I know with everything you’re with me
I know you’re working as I wait
Lift me up on wings like eagles to soar.”
