Who Knew?

August 30, 2009 by Elaine

I went to the BlogHer conference for many reasons. One was because I consider myself a very social person and I LOVE to meet, connect and well, talk and laugh with others. Especially those who share my same interests. What better place, really?

I also went (I’ll admit) to promote my own blog and get my site some more exposure mostly just because I love visitors and commenters!

But really, I had not considered the aspect of how many additional wonderful bloggers I would be exposed to. Now don’t that take the tassel off ‘n the corn? (if you know the musical that phrase is from then you were probably in choir with me my sophomore year in high school…)

Anyway, two of the ladies that I have found myself enamored with lately include Heather and Zakary. And because I now read their blogs and knew NOTHING of them before going to the conference, I consider that just one of the may benefits of attending an event such as this. New bloggers, friends and some great writing to boot.

Here is a favorite recent post from Zak’s blog, Shindig and here is one from Heather who writes at The Extraordinary Ordinary, that I like very much. Go visit them. And perhaps, you’ll be lucky enough to meet them someday like I was…

Thank you! You just added 2 new great reads to my reader! I love discovering nre blogs and making new friends. I hope to make it to blogher one day but who knows when that one day will ever be. I am still a relatively new blogger and am not even sure how to go about attending or sponsors or any of that. Gotta brush up on my skills lol.

Who Knew?

May 22, 2008 by Elaine

I know several of us “Mommy Bloggers” (that’s right people – we are quite a group!) have expressed that we had no idea when we began blogging what it would turn into and what it would mean in our lives.

I have made so many friends, that for the most part I have not met in person (though I would love to someday!!) and despite that fact, I feel like I know you. Many of us pour our hearts out in words that we might not be able to even utter to others but on our blog it’s pretty easy and okay.

Several of you told me I was being too hard on myself the other day when I posted about the injury explosion that went on here over the weekend. And you made me feel better. That’s only one example of what a community this has become for me and so many of us.

My son wonders who we are praying for sometimes at night and I simply tell him, “Mommy’s bloggy friends.” I know he doesn’t really “get it” but we pray on and I think of so many of my fellow bloggers at that time of the day, especially anyone who has mentioned that they are going through a difficult time.

I love to commiserate over potty training and having boys and scrapbooking and my chocolate addiction. And someone tell me, where else can you write your random thoughts on a daily basis and and have people from around the country, and world for that matter, read them and have something to say back? I know it’s simple but it’s still amazing to me.

Here are some examples of how blogging has affected my life, from little things, like a some “good mail” to bigger things like hopefully helping a little boy halfway around the world to live a better life.

  • This weekend (if the children heal well – ahhh!) we plan to take photographs with Christina. We connected through blogging.
  • I have been changed by Beth’s loss and the fact that she is willing to share so much of herself with us. She is tops on the prayer list.
  • Today I received this frame and photo album from Yvette after signing up for Good Mail, hosted by Jody. On a day when I needed to feel a little better. It came at just the right time. (no, the picture was not included)

  • And last week I received this from Lori after participating in oh amanda’s baby swap (no we didn’t actually swap babies, just stuff!) Sandra Boynton is a rockstar in this house and are those not the cutest swim trunks? Thanks Lori!

  • My blog went from ho-hum to very pretty thanks to Karen. It’s always nice to “come home” now.
  • I learned about Compassion International through Sophie and Shannon and this sweet little boy has become part of our lives. He wants to be a doctor one day. I hope we can help him make that dream come true.

These are just a few things that come to mind when I think of blogging and what it has become in my life.

Who knew?

I am in complete and TOTAL agreement with you on this one! My husband and children don’t quite understand it, but I think they accept it – especially my husband. He’s so cute – when I talk about a friend, he is quick to ask, “now…is this the one that lives in Dallas? or is she here in the real world?”

Oh yeah, glad you liked your good mail and your boys pictures look wonderful in the frame.

I’ve actually met a couple of ladies in person and it was great. Add to that the additional closeness I’ve given to my MIL and assorted other family members and blogging is WAY more important and useful than just sending a letter.

Besides, this way I don’t have to shell out all the dough on physical prints of photos. And I do take a LOT!

I’m glad blogging’s been good for you, too!
