Where I am From

A couple of my favorite fellow bloggers did posts like this not too long ago and I was inspired by them to write this…

I am from cotton farmers and people who speak “Czech”.

I am from Summer nights catching fireflies and Fourth of Julys sitting on top of my Dad’s old Chevy watching the fireworks across the street.

I am from Kolaches and beef Stroganoff and apple pie with sugar and flour crumbles on top.

I am from glasses full of “sun tea”.

I am from Lillie and Thomas, Paul and Annie.

I am from fields full of bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush.

I am from road trips to the Painted Dessert and the Lincoln Memorial.

I am from mean jokes about my “stature” as a child.

I am from heartbreak and belly laughter and good friends and slumber parties.

I am from dog-lovers and fish-catchers and truck-drivers.

I am from big Texas lakes to ski on and even bigger Texas skies to day dream under.

I am from the old camper where I slept away many a childhood night at the K.O.A.s of the U.S. of A.

I am from a family of six that has grown to twenty-one.

I am from three older brothers and no biological sisters, but many who I would call that anyway.

I am from Lawrence and Lillian.

I am from loses and wins.

I am from photos and memories and dreams of what is yet to come.

I am from dirt and sweat and the sun and moon, rising and setting, many, many times.

I am from God.
