OhMyGoodness, TWO!

As of tomorrow, Baby K will be 2.  I have a little party planned at the local ice cream parlor and I’m so excited for the sundaes and smiles and fun and the cuteness that is sure to ensue.

But of course I’m also reflective on the last last two years and how my baby girl is definitely now a toddler, making full sentences and bossing her brothers around (yes, already). She “reads” books – her favorite being “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?” and her next favorite “Goodnight Gorilla”.  She points at the keys that the gorilla has stolen from the zookeeper, every single time.

She watches Phineas and Ferb with her big bros (yes, she does, don’t judge) and sits on the ottoman in the living room right next to her big brothers while Dr. Doofenshmirtz and Perry the Platypus carry on with their usual antics.  She also likes to kick the soccer ball at the boys’ practices and games.

She shows NO signs of giving up the paci.  NONE whatsoever.

Her lovey, “L.C.” (short for Lamb Chop and pictured below a couple of times) goes many places with us. I finally got a chance to wash it the other day. Thank goodness.

Her favorite things to eat are fruit, cheese and cereal. Oh and ANY sweet treat of course.  I mean she is MY daughter.

She’s doing great in her Mother’s Day Out program and last week when I dropped her off she plopped down in the “Princess” chair and waved at me and said, “Bye Mommy!”  Oh my heart.

It’s truly hard to believe that just two short years ago I was holding her in my arms for the very first time, my heart exploding at the fact that I had a daughter. A forever shopping buddy. 🙂 Good thing she already has a penchant for shoes.

I have to say, her birthday has kind of sneaked up on me this time.  At least on my heart.  I’ve been thinking about the party for a while now and the FACT that she is officially two but for some reason my heart part isn’t so prepared.  I can certainly see it in the pictures below, that chronicle moments of the last year, how her face has gone from a “baby” one to a not-so-baby one, and it registers in my brain.  But my soul wants to snuggle back down into the chair or bed with her infant body close to my chest.

I still want to call her my baby and see her that way to.

Yes, that’s what I want to do.

But, there are shoes to buy (squee!) and there is growing and learning to do and future fun to be had.

So, bring on age 2.  Hopefully the year of potty-training and the decision (by her) to keep cute hair accessories in her her hair longer than .3056 nano-seconds. (that’s how fast I am with the camera! he he!)

Happy Birthday my sweet, beautiful Katelyn, Katie-biz, Kay Kay, Katie, Kate, Kay.  You are sunshine and light and love.  I love you so much, my heart bursts.

P.S. if you want to see pics of her first year, go to last year’s birthday post and watch the video.  Warning, it’s WAAAY cute. 😉
