Tim was coming home late from work.
The boys and I were lying on The B Man’s bed, surrounded by his 40 bagillion stuffed animals.
I relaxed into the bed out of sheer exhaustion, from all the “running” I have been doing lately. Both literally and figurativelly.
Behind me I could hear their breathing. I could hear Little G’s babbling and sweet squeals. Like music to my ears.
The B Man began to stroke my hair, as he loves to do lately. The relaxation continued even though my legs felt heavy and then I closed my eyes.
As I sunk lower into submission I began to think about how lucky I was to have my two boys and my husband and my house and my life. And how I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else in the world at that very moment than right there with my two little guys playing with my hair (Little G had now joined his brother).
And then, “Ouch!!”
Down time over!
Little G yanked several hairs out of my head. As I looked back at him and firmly said “No!” (more disturbed about the interruption than the pain in my head) he looked at me and showed those sweet baby dimples and giggled.
So then all I could do was cotinue to thank my lucky stars and tickle him. Let the tickle fest commence. Bed time can wait.
I LOVE those moments! When I have a bad day I try so hard to remember that there are sweet, fun times like that and thankfully, while the kids are small, they come often!
Those are just the best moments! Ahhhh. I love it.
Yay for the running!!! 😉
If I say ouch or cry in pain my baby swings his arms around my neck and cries along with me, it’s the sweetest thing.
I love those moments, when all you can do is tickle! WE have many of those moments.
There they go, turning on you in a split second!
But how sweet of them to take care of their mommy like that.
Just this AM, MH was doing that and rubbing my hair and telling me she was taking care of me.
That followed by fabulous hugs and snuggles so tight? Nothing better!
BTW, when you said you heard breathing in your ears I was afraid of where your post was headed – as in “Could you stop making that noise???” LOL
I’ve been practicing, but I just can’t seem to get the knack of not breathing!
That is the most adorable thing! It is so nice to take advantage of those moments and to recognize them for what they are! You are one of the lucky ones!
That’s one way to start a tickle fest…or you could just start tickling, lol!!
What a fun moment! I can’t wait for my boys to both be able to hang out with me like that!
oh there is truly nothing better than a good ole tickle fest!!
and your right – bed time can wait 🙂
beautiful moment, and beautiful post! Those quiet moments are precious…but the tickle moments are FUN!
Loved this! Thanks for the smile!
What a great post to remind us of those unexpected wonderful moments 🙂
Who won ticklefest ’08 ?!
A tickle fest absolutely takes precedence over bedtime. It sounds like a wonderful night – hair pulling and all.
Man – every hair-playing incident for me results in a new bald spot. I feel your pain (literally)!
Here’s some miscellany for you. I popped over to your blog because I’m also named Elaine. I’m actually even Elaine A. like you, so I needed to come over and visit you.
I go by my middle name Adrian, but I did use Elaine for a while I High School. I wanted a change and I thought Elaine sounded a little more “glamourous” or something, but I just never sounded like “me”, so I switched back and now I’m just Adrian and I love it.
Cute blog!
Adorable! Thank you for posting on my blog. If you hadn’t I may not have gotten the chance to read yours! Love the background by the way!
What a beautiful moment… those little snippets are what make it all worth it, patches of missing scalp notwithstanding, right ;)?
Have a great weekend, Elaine!
Those are the best times!
Why do kids need to sleep with millions of stuffed animals? All mine do.
And this post… so cute. Bedtime can always wait. True!
How sweet!! I just love my little guy too!!:)Little boys are just the best!!
Yep, those are the moments that make it all worthwhile, aren’t they?
