I lift my tired and groggy body out of the bed. Yesterday I ran 4 miles. And I stayed up too late again last night.
One child came in to snuggle a bit ago but now he’s gone. So where is he?
I see the clock says 7:11! I must get up NOW and wake up the 2nd grader. He’s probably still tired too.
I find him wrapped in my favorite t.v. watching blanket and laying on the couch. I remember we picked out his uniform clothes for school last night, so at least there is that.
I hurry and pop his and his brother’s frozen breakfast in the toaster. God bless one that holds 4 slices! At the same time, pulling multiple items out of the fridge to make lunches. All three kids off to school today.
Scoot, scoot out the door! A kiss for daddy, the morning chauffeur.
The toddler is still in bed, sequestered by the bars on the crib that keep her there. We should probably make it into the toddler bed for her soon and take off the front. But the that means she really isn’t a baby anymore.
I make my coffee and then breakfast for us girls. “Egg in a hole”, with jam on the “hole”.
I go to get her and she’s awake, playing with her babies and animals. From behind her pacifier she says, “Hi Mommy!” I pick her up and press my nose into her sweet smelling hair.
We eat together while her brother plays trains in the background.
I inhale the scent and warmth of my coffee but in the back of my mind I know we are running late.
I rush to get us all dressed and out the door. K’s backpack stuffed with diapers, her lunch and her blankie. I drop them off and rush home to shower.
I have an eye doctor appointment and need to go to the grocery store…

Doesn’t their sweet sleepy sweaty hair just smell the best? Seriously.

Hectic, hectic! The picture is a good contrast to your words – it looks, well, quiet. 🙂

Love this girlfriend! I wish we could send them all out the door and share that cup of coffee {Did I really just say that?!} XO

I always stay up too late… especially since I started exploring the blogging world. There are endless things to read and the hours just seem to disappear. That baby is all smiles for me in the morning though, so it is hard to be grumpy. Of course, I just have one to handle. I guess I should soak up our peaceful mornings while they last.

I always stay up too late and then want to linger in bed too long. Our mornings are rushed and I hate that!
But that picture sure looks calm and quiet!

Mornings are always hectic around here when I have to get my daughter to school. Not my favorite part of the day but I do love the little bit of time in the morning when it’s just me and my youngest.

Oh how this resonates with this tired morning mama.

My mornings are groggy (that’s me) and hectic, too. I enjoyed your descriptive morning story. Hope your Tuesday started off well!

Mornings are intense, but afternoons are always worse for me. Morning seems to run a strict time clock, but the evenings can go all crazy.

My mornings have been so intense this year. I can commiserate, only Tommy is usually the first one awake in our house.
Whimsical Sasha says
Sounds like my mornings but usually my kids want me to make pancakes, or egg burritos or french toast! Never an easy breakfast 🙁 But it makes me happy to know that hopefully, someday they’ll remember what I did for them. 🙂

OH, how I loved this. It tugged at my heartstrings, made me long for a little voice coming out from behind a pacifier.
The beauty that is found in the everyday moments.. they are treasures indeed.

I love the details you included – egg in a hole 🙂 I forgot about that breakfast!

7:11! Lucky! Alarm goes off at 6:15 here, although I hit snooze at least once. Mornings should feel frantic to me, but they don’t, which is strange because I am NOT a morning person. I guess that is a blessing, the not-frantic feeling.
Heather of the EO says
I love the details. They make me feel all motherhood sisterhood-y.

“They” claim we’ll miss this when our kids are grown and gone…actually I can see that. There is something in the rush rush that is satisfying. Kind of like that is exactly how it is supposed to be. Normal.
Great post!

Oh girl- I have that rush, rush, rush in the mornings, too. Makes me want a nap before 8am.

This is so lovely. And authentic. And in the moment. Can I have some coffee too, please?

sounds like my kind of morning…rushed and yet, slowed down just long enough to inhale the sweet scent of a baby 🙂

It’s so hard to give up the last little bits of their babyhood like fronts on cribs.
((Hugs)) mama, beautiful post.
Jessica {Team Rasler} says
I have a feeling the second one will be in a crib longer than his big brother… love this description of a morning so many of us can relate to! Also: love the daddy chauffeur! We have one here, too.
Christine says
Oh yes, I did that sweet-baby/toddler/little boy smelling thing this morning. My own is 2 1/2 and we’re talking about taking the front off the crib, but I’m not quite ready yet. So this morning I held him tight while I took a few extra minutes to just breathe him in.

The very first thing I do when I get Buggy out of bed is smell his hair.
We are hectic here to. But I just want to jump into your peaceful photo and have coffee with you!
Maggie S. says
Seems you stayed so present. I will need to remember this next Friday.
Julie Moore says
Yeah the front of cribs is hard to let go of. They grow up fasy. Loved the details and the smeilling of the hair.
Making It Work Mom says
I am always the last one to bed at night and the first one up in the morning.
Sometimes I am amazed at how much I get done before 9AM and then after i am amazed I am exhausted!
Great post – I loved the contrast between the writing style and the topic.
