For several years now, may of us bloggers have chosen a “word for the year”. A couple of years ago my word was Brave and that was a really good year for me in the sense that I was brave in putting my creative self out there, especially the writer side of me. I feel like that could be my word again this year but I did not want to repeat so soon. So I chose another “B” word, BE.
Here is a list of ways I hope to interpret it this year (and yes I know I am over a month late in posting this but… well… LIFE.)
Be good to myself.
Be there for my family and friends.
Be present
Be smart
Be full of love and kindness.
Be giving
Be forgiving (of myself and others)
Be honest (especially with myself)
Be healthy
Be charitable
Be peaceful
And… Just Be Held.
This is not a religious blog, you know that if you read here regularly. However, I am a religious person and right now I am leaning hard on God. And prayer. And my belief that my faith is going to carry me through these difficult times.
These lyrics by Casting Crowns, in their song “Just Be Held”, are pretty perfect in my life these days. My favorite line is in bold.
Hold it all together
Everybody needs you strong
But life hits you out of nowhere
And barely leaves you holding on
And when you’re tired of fighting
Chained by your control
There’s freedom in surrender
Lay it down and let it go
So when youre on your knees and answers seem so far away
You’re not alone, stop holding on and just be held
Your world’s not falling apart, it’s falling into place
I’m on the throne, stop holding on and just be held
Just be held, just be held
If your eyes are on the storm
You’ll wonder if I love you still
But if your eyes are on the cross
You’ll know I always have and I always will
And not a tear is wasted
In time, you’ll understand
I’m painting beauty with the ashes
Your life is in My hands
Lift your hands, lift your eyes
In the storm is where youll find Me
And where you are, Ill hold your heart
I’ll hold your heart
Come to Me, find your rest
In the arms of the God who won’t let go
That last line is pretty great too. I know He won’t let go of me. Or my children. I hope to “be” able to know that always.
And I hope I can do all the things above, even if just a little.
Tell me what your word is for this year… or send me to your post if you posted about it, I would love to read!
Happy 2016 (6 weeks in…)

I’m tearing up reading this. I love your word.
When I look back at my bleak, hard periods of life, I realise those were when my faith and relationship with God were truly anchored. I hated it in the moment – so much pain, so many tears. But looking back, I’m filled with gratitude each and every time I think of it because of the priceless gift I got in return.
Love you.

Content is my word for 2016. Content with with my life, by body, my soul. Content to be kind and turn the other cheek. Onwards and upwards!

Those are beautiful lyrics, especially the line you mentioned. It gives me something to roll around in my brain today.
My 2016 words are “Let go,” and I’ve had many many opportunities to practice embodying them so far this year, and it’s only February. I am learning that I am more of a control freak than I thought I was.

That’s a beautiful song. I’ve been leaning on God more this year than ever before. I think you picked a great word for the year, be good to yourself my friend.

I didn’t choose a word this year, although I did think about it. I guess nothing stuck out enough to commit to it.
I love your word. Just to BE – isn’t that something we all want?

Such a perfect word for the year. And who cares when you choose it. That list is beautifully written. If only we could all be like that. I was thinking about you during the intercessions at Mass this morning. It’s wonderful to hear you haven’t lost faith…it’s so easy to do during tough times.

I really felt moved by this. And by the way, I let my religion flag fly all over my blog even though it’s not really a “religious blog” either. 🙂

I did choose a word of the year – thrive. I was all about trying to find balance last year, and while I think I mostly did that, we’re welcoming a baby into our already chaotic lives in a few short weeks…and I just want to thrive (or survive.) My post: http://lovejaime.com/soc-week-78/
