… I’m going to.
Shopping is becoming a chore. There, I said it.
Whether it’s with the kids or even not. I used to love to shop and shop and then go shopping some more. It’s possible the economy is in trouble because I don’t shop very much anymore. Ok. maybe not. But still, I’ve cut back A LOT for various reasons, time being the primary one.
But today I did some. The boys and I went to the library for storytime in the morning and then gave some of Daddy’s hard-earned money to frosties and fries from Wendy’s for lunch. And after that we gave some to the local flower and fruit/veggie market and then Home Depot all so that I could have some pretty flowers out front.
The boys did well and The B Man had a blast jumping in puddles from where they’d watered the plants while Little G hung out in the cart.
But you know, everytime you get in and out of the car you have to buckle and unbuckle them and then you have to buckle the belt on the cart so your toddler doesn’t hit the pavement head first. I know I’ve complained about the buckling before. Apparently I have an issue with it. And it’s about to get “worse!” ; )
(Now this is where I insert the story about how a complete stranger decided to pull my baby son OUT OF THE CART at the H.D. and get a “hug” from him. Then she started kissing and tickling him like she was his Grandmother, right before my very eyes. She literally grabbed him up out of the cart without ANY hesitation. I realize I already said that but I just can’t get over it. She DID put him back and I believe she was harmless but still, really??? Without even asking me you pick up my child and start smothering him?)
Anyway, tonight I went out again after declaring to the hubs I have NO MORE makeup and I simply cannot be makeup-less. It’s just who I am. Since I had some extra time after that purchase I decided to go looking for shoes for the boys. I went to 3 stores with no luck. Time wasted = not happy Elaine.
So I had no choice but to try the tried and true Target. And guess what? They had everything I wanted including a pair of “faux” crocs on clearance for The B Man for a cool $1.98. Same pair he had last year just in a bigger size. And you’ll never guess that I found the cutest pair of flip flops for me too.
And the checker was SO nice and friendly that he made me smile all the way to the parking lot. So I ask you, why do I even shop anywhere else? I have no idea…
P.S. Sorry if this post was kind of all over the place. Just feeling that way a little lately…
P.P.S. The Ultimate Blog Party from 5 Minutes for Mom starts tomorrow. Lots of fun and lots of prizes. Come join the fun! : )

I feel the same way, I used to love shopping and now, ughhh. I have however recently discovered the beauty of Super Target and it does ease the pain somewhat.
Beth says
I am so with you! All that buckling, the constant negotiations, the feeling that you have a million other things you should be doing and of course the worry over spending money in the first place. Being a housewife just isn’t as easy as it looks 🙂
Sweet Serendipity says
We’re on the same page here sister. I used to shop crazy, no one could keep up and I wanted no one along to slow me down. Now, ugh! Too much trouble, the buckling, the whining, the zillions of child-related accessories required to make it through the trip..no fun. I shop a lot more online now.
But, Target can nearly always make me smile. I just bought kids shoes there too 🙂
Good luck with the new babe…and start bookmarking your favorite online baby shops…you’re heading toward a whole new buckle situation!

Thanks for the reminder about the blog party! I am not a shopper. I am really not a shopper with all 4 kids in tow!

I’m irritated by the in the car out of the car, buckle and unbuckle routine of shopping as well…and I’ve just got Jackson!
I CANNOT believe that woman did that! I mean WOW! To not ask or anything????
Crazy…I probably would have made a scene if that happened to us!
Kami says
Um, the lady picking up G…that could have been a WTF post! Seriously, what is that! My kids would have lost their minds. They don’t do strangers talking to them never mind picking them up and *shudder* hugging them.
OY!
I love that my kids can do up their own seat belts now. FREEDOM! Of course they don’t like to go shopping with me anymore either….wait, why would I be upset about that?
Lori says
I do not miss the days of buckling and unbuckling my daughter in her car seat. I cannot believe that woman just lifted your son out of the cart and started loving on him! That’s insane!
Simply Sara says
Ok, I’m still stuck on the whole stranger picking up your child situation….C.R.A.Z.Y!!
Wow. Anyways…
I am so with you on the shopping. Since having our third I dread going out. I’ve been in complete hibernation….I’m hoping as the weather warms up my love for shopping will return, but bundling up three small kids and getting them in and out of car seats, just to run a few errands is just plain wrong.
NO THANKS!

I completely get you on the buckling thing. And 4 of the 5 can now buckle themselves, and 3 of them can unbuckle. It is just a chore getting people in and out of the car. And of course Target had all you needed because it is a mysterious vortex that pulls money out of your wallet without you even realizing it.

I was at Target yesterday too. I love the home items and decorative items. Never had any luck with clothes except gym wear. The baby items are great.
That lady was wrong to pull your son out of the cart and act that way with him. I’m sure she was harmless, but still it was wrong. Hope she realizes that behavior like that is sometimes scary. She could have just talked to him. That’s what most people do.
Shopping isn’t what it used to be. More fun with some extra money, but who has that nowdays. Better times are ahead, I hope.

Oh man, between the unhooking of seat belts, the waddling, the sweating, the feeling like you are about to give virth int he middle of the store…I hear you. I so hear you.
Jen says
I’m totally with you on this. The funny thing is that now that my kids are over the whole buckling and unbuckling stage, I still have this fear of shopping. I avoid it like the plague. It saves us money though, so that is good.
MamaGeek @ Works For Us says
I feel ya. And you know what really sucks? THE CAR SEATS AND SNOWSUITS (be grateful you don’t have to deal with those)!
Kat says
I’ve been really pissy about shopping lately. I can’t find ANYTHING that I want. It is so weird. And don’t even get me started on all the damn buckles. Ugh. Annoying. All of our carseats make my hubby cuss. Well, hon, we’re adding one more! 😉
So glad your Target experience ended things on a positive note for you. 🙂

That’s crazy. Did the Grandma Lady even notice your flabbergasted look?
Christina says
I hear ya, sistah! I’m a get-it-all-in-one-place kinda girl these days.
But crazy lady snatching your kid? That’s just not okay.
Heidi says
She pulled your child out of the cart? Oddball!!!! My son would probably whack someone. And shopping. It’s a give or take thing to me. The ‘economy’ is soooo depressing me!
A Crafty Mom says
I can’t stand the buckling, thankfully I finally have one who can do it himself. I’m shocked the woman touched someone else’s child – I have not encountered this yet and would not be too happy if someone picked up one of my kids!!!!
Glad you got your make up. Mama’s gotta be happy . . . my hubby *always* says . . . “happy wife, happy life”.
Leslie says
Lalalalalalala *covering ears*….I can’t hear you.
Mom101 says
Okay, can we go back to the whole a stranger picked my baby up thing? Because um…WHAT?
Kellan says
I love to shop too, but not so much with the kiddos – NOPE!
Have a great Friday, Elaine – see you soon – Kellan

Costco carts that hold 2 have become my bff!
I can’t believe random grandma picking up the baby, I would have drop kicked her… or thought about it at least.
