Having a Daughter

August 15, 2012 by Elaine

Sometimes I just stop and marvel at the fact that I have a daughter.

There was a time when I just wasn’t so sure.

Although when I found out I was pregnant with her I kinda had a feeling.

But I didn’t want to get my hopes up… you know?

I find such joy in filling her closet with clothes I wish they made in my size.  And even playing dress-up dolls and “Dora house”.

I know we’ll probably have our ups and downs as she continues to grow into a young woman and beyond but right now, well… I have to say, it’s pretty awesome.

I love having daughters! (Although I don’t let myself think about the teenage years…) My older one has just started letting me have more fun with her hair now too, so we actually get to try different styles. I’m in the boat of not being able to imagine having boys. 🙂

    Awwwww!

Now you’ve just made me want to have a little girl…. (they do have the cutest clothes!)

This is so bizarre. Today is Grace’s birthday and I was going to write about this same thing. How I still can’t believe I have a daughter and it is so much more, and better, than I could ever have dreamed. I just can’t get over how lucky I am to have my three awesome boys and MY GIRL.
    Beautiful post. 🙂

My daughter just started middle school (at 11) and she became a teenager in every way but age overnight. Enjoy dressing up and playing. Before you know it she’ll be obsessing over why she needs a padded bra.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve passed little girl clothing and thought “Why don’t they make this in my size???”.

And seriously, if I could one day have a legitimate excuse to play with Barbies at my age…I’d be a happy girl. 😉

I have 2 daughters who mean the world to me! I also have 3 boys whom I adore, but my girls and I have such a connection! They get “me”, and a I get them.

I am no good at the playing. But I do love having daughters. Even though I had two girls first, having Lily felt like an extra special blessing. I think because I was more confident as a mom. She’s so fiery and challenging, but loves so fiercely too. And I am with you on the clothes–so jealous of her wardrobe!

There is just something about a daughter. Maybe it is the knowing that she may actually follow in your foot steps one day.

So very sweet … enjoy her, they grow so fast and then play loud music and keep headphones on 😉

I totally know what you mean. I feel the same way about my daughter and then she gets all mouthy and says things like “I KNOW MOM! You don’t have to tell me that.”

But I am mouthy too so I’ll keep her and love her. 🙂

If being a Dude Mama wasn’t fitting me so well these days I’d certainly be jealous. Sounds like some kind of fun!

Aw, so very sweet! Girls clothes (and toys) are just so much cuter than what is taking over my house right now!

I do love having two daughters although at some point in the future I’m sure it will be a lot less fun.

I love my girls and all the tea parties we have! But I don’t like looking ahead to the teenage years… not sure what those will bring.

I love my little guy but I hope some day I get to experience the joy of having a little girl. The bond between girls and their moms is so special.

Cherish every moment! I love my daughter, but when they become teenagers, they know mom is safe, and they say or do things that will surprise you, both good and bad. Gosh, I love my daughter, too! But I also love my son. I feel blessed.

I marvel at my daughters every. single. day. Their relationship with each other, with me, with their brothers, their daddy. It’s amazing and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

My girls are older and there are ups and downs but all of the ups totally make up for the downs. I adore life with my girlies in it. 🙂

Couldn’t agree more. When we had our ultrasound and were told we had a girl, my husband looked at me and I looked at him and we both smiled, knowing we both had wanted a girl. Of course a boy would have been fine too but she amazes me every day. And seeing her become her own person helps me accept who I am in the world because that’s the kind of model I want to be for her. Thanks for the post.
