I feel like I’m constantly distracted.
I feel like other people are constantly distracted.
On any given day while my husband is talking to me during dinner after he has just walked in the door 5 minutes ago and I’m bribing the 2 year old with the promise of dessert to eat his vegetables and the baby is spitting up on me and I’m thinking about the laundry in the washer that needs to go in the dryer, I’m distracted.
Even as I try to fall asleep at night I’m completely distracted from the task at hand: REST.
My head is swirling with thoughts and actions that need to take place and the calendar in my head.
The other day we were out to lunch with some friends (as families) and the husband and their teen daughter were on their hand-held devices most of the time. I presume checking email and facebook and other stuff like that.
For most of our time together, they were distracted. But you know what? I didn’t even think about it until a couple of days later that that was the case. Because at the time I was distracted, looking for my kids around the video games, tending to the baby, trying to figure out what I wanted to eat for lunch.
When was the last time YOU or I put it ALL down and turned it off and actually had a conversation with someone while looking in their eyes and REALLY heard them?
I’m as guilty as anyone else, or possibly more so than most.
I vow to try to pay more attention and be less distracted.
Sometimes you cannot help it but many times, we can.
