Imagine you are meeting someone for the first time. You want to tell them about yourself.
Instead of reciting a laundry list of what you do or where you’re from, please give us a scene from your life that best illustrates your true self.
I threw myself into the room, announcing I was there and the party could start.
I was sure I’d made an impression, although not entirely sure what kind.
But right away we bonded over singing. I’m a soprano. He’s a tenor.
I knew quickly that we had a similar sense of humor. We both liked movies a lot.
His blue eyes were easy to dive into.
That day I shook his hand and it felt electric.
Amongst all those praying and meditating, I found him.
The fact that we both went to the retreat was fate. Wasn’t it?
I rode in his well loved and used Volvo on a trip to the convenience store.
I followed him around the rest of the evening. Yes, like a puppy.
I’d NEVER done that with anyone before.
I made sure he remembered me.
I completely remembered him.
In the next few weeks we started dating and we talked a lot and learned about each other’s families, lives, beliefs.
We each have three siblings, both from families of three boys and one girl. At the time we were both in college and working too.
I discovered his love for the cool and he found out I would MUCH rather be warm – the source of our nicknames for each other, actually.
We met each other before the altar exactly four years after we met on that day in November of 1995.
He’s brought out the very best in me and sometimes the worst.
But he’s usually my calm in the storm.
He IS the love of my life.
We are very different in some ways but we balance each other out.
After 15 years we’ve both changed here and there.
He used to spend more time on the computer. Now it’s me.
We began as a family of two and now we are five.
He is the “breadwinner” and I am the Mommy.
The day we met changed my life forever and defines so much of who I am now.
I am so very glad we both were in the same place at the same time.
And I’m so glad I went after what I wanted.
Him.
