It’s been almost a year since we packed up our home and headed for our new one.
I had memories today of being big and pregnant while dealing with boxes and foundation problems and a constantly traveling husband.
The week before we moved was one of the hardest weeks of my life. Really.
Before we left, The B Man attended VBS at our then church. The CD of the music permeated my life before we moved and even after, as I played it MANY times in the car for the boys.
After The B Man started school here I would play it over and over for Little G while we waited in the pick-up line in the afternoon. His favorite song became a sort of ‘mantra’ for me as I tried and tried to not miss home so much. It quickly became my ‘favorite’ too.
In your darkness, He shines through
When you’re cryin’ He’s your comfort,
When you’re all alone, He’s carrying you…
You get down He lifts you up, you get down, He lifts you up, you get down He lifts you up…”
(I still find it quite funny that the theme for VBS last year was something about being down on the bayou. Providence in vacation bible school. Who knew.)
After prayers at night, we sang it together a few more times, until both of our hearts believed it.
I do believe He has been here for me in this last year.
I believe He sent an angel in the form of a sweet lady named Carol that I met on the plane who ‘introduced’ me to her friends who live here and are now my friends.
I believe He was with me all those times I cried my eyes out, wishing we hadn’t moved at all.
I believe He knows my heart smiled when, even though it’s a bit of a conundrum, I realized we have over-lapping birthday parties to attend this coming weekend.
A lot can change in a year. We are doing well here. My husband is happy in his career (and rarely travels), we have friends, the kids are happy and we’ve made this house a ‘home’.
I’m also thankful that our families and good friends are great about visiting us here and comply to delivering Costco when they do. 😉
But what does it REALLY come down to?
Anywhere I am with my loving husband and these three babies of mine is HOME to me…
HE most certainly has ‘lifted me up.”

this makes my heart happy. sometimes we have no choice but to roll with the punches and accept that we are meant to be where we are placed…and it looks like you are placed in a wonderful place in the midst of a beautiful loving family.
If i had lots of airline miles I would so come for a visit and bring Costco.

What great words and so true. When people ask me if I’m going “home” to Texas to visit, I say “no, that’s not home anymore.”
Glad things are working out for you there.
And, how many times did you have to say “fart” to get that shot with everybody looking?

LOVE that song…played at our kids VBS last year too…we weren’t at the same on were we??? 🙂 I totally understand how you feel….we moved home almost two years ago now, after being away (in two other states) for 5 years…..Looking back I wouldn’t change a minute of it for the world…it was hard at the time, but the friends I made and the memories….ALL WORTH IT! I used to drive in my car and cry (to a different song—one by carrie underwood—we are from oklahoma and it was about the big blue skies here)…anyway….i just got a big lump in my throat thinking of you singing and crying like I once did….glad you are seeing the silver lining!

Morgan and I taught 8th grade confirmation classes a few years back and we became very aware of “Holy Spirit Moments.” It is amazing how things turn out with God’s little push!
