90 X 2 = Wonderful!

We celebrated the birthdays of Carolyn and Gordon Teague this weekend. These are Tim’s maternal grandparents and a pair of the lovliest people I know. Carolyn’s 90th birthday was on July 22nd of this year and Gordon’s will be on January 19th of 2008. Their children decided to pick a weekend to do a dual celebration and to honor their lives. I also want to say how proud they make me to be part of their family and how wonderful it is to know them and for my children to know them. I never had the opportunity to meet any of my great-grandparents and I think it is so wonderful that my sons do.

We were able to join the celebration at Barrie’s (my mother in law) house twice and both times our visit included a very delicious meal, mostly prepared by Tim’s Aunt Terry with a little help from her daughter Susan and perhaps Terry’s husband Hal as well (I don’t want to leave anyone out!). Most of the recipes were those used by the Teague family while Tim’s mother and her siblings were growing up. Things such as meatloaf, baked beans, shrimp bisque and lemon meringue pie (oh so yummy!).

Their children, Sharry, Barrie, Terry and Neel all presented a list of 90 things they have learned from their parents. Some of the things on the list were values such as how to treat others and some were inside family jokes such as “42 pounds of strawberries is too much.” Here they are during their presentation.

They took turns reading from the list and it was quite sweet, sometimes funny, and very heartwarming.

Of course no birthday party is complete without cake (take it from Ben) and so there was a very tasty one of those as well, from Cooper St. Bakery. Here’s Carolyn with the beautiful and tasty cake.

Here’s a bonus picture of my nephew Daniel that I got off of my parents’ camera. If you all remember, this is my nephew that was almost 15 weeks premature. Yesterday (August 12) was his first birthday!! He’s doing great and we can’t wait to see him when we visit Austin this coming weekend.
