Music is a pretty big deal around here. Tim and I are both singers and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that at least one of our children will follow in our foot steps.
Recently I was given the chance to review a new CD by singer/songwriter Joanie Leeds. Since I’m always on the prowl for new music for the kids to listen to, either in the car or at the house, I was very interested when I was contacted about reviewing her new album, I’m A Rock Star (release date March 23rd).
And I have to say, it delivered! Her voice and enthusiasm are really great and the CD is full of wonderful songs that kids love and won’t bore adults. We’ve listened to it quite a bit in the last couple of weeks and just yesterday I was already singing along to all of the songs.
Little G loves the song “Jump, Jump” and he was also singing along to “Joanie Says” the other day (maybe he’s going to be my singer. fingers crossed.)
And The B Man totally appreciates “I Wanna Be Green” because that’s his favorite color. (The song is about taking care of the Earth and has a great message for kids.) Not to mention the tune is VERY ‘catchy!’
My favorite songs are “More Cowbell” (hilarious and kids sing in it too!) and “Give Me A Hug.”
Here’s a little bit more about Joanie:
From an email about Joanie: “Joanie’s soulful, “rock solid” voice plus a remarkable ability to connect with kids through her songwriting won her a 2008 Parents’ Choice Award for her debut children’s album, City Kid. Parents’ Choice reviewer Lynne Heffley praised Joanie’s “vivacious soprano and gentle rock ‘n roll approach.”
From the flyer I received with the CD: “After a friend suggested she get a job where she could sing for kids during the day (while working the club scene at night) she “found” herself while managing a Gymboree in Manhattan. Life clicked into place when Joanie realized that when she was with children, they transformed themselves into amazing creatures of joy, forgetting how to hold back. Seeing the kids get in touch with their true selves gave Joanie a sense of fulfillment that far surpassed playing for adults on the club circuit.”
All in all the CD is fabulous and I love playing it in the house while the boys “get down” and can enjoy the music instead of the television.
So, would you like a copy of I’m a Rock Star? (trust me, you do, it’s really fabulous entertainment for kids and adults alike!!)

We LOVE kids music around here, too! Can’t get enough. We have 2 favorites, can’t decide on one. Andrew Peterson, Slugs & Bugs CD (Christian singer, highly recommend it). He has a song, “Daddy Loves You” that is our all-time favorite. Also, we have about 4 Brent Holmes CD’s but “Chocolate Moose” is our favorite there. Such fun memories we’ve made………

We listen to kid’s music so much here, too. My oldest likes for me to sing “you are my sunshine” and my son likes “Twinkle Twinkle” and just this morning, I discovered that the baby cracks up when I sing “Hey, Good Looking” 🙂
We do need to plan a get together!! I’d love to meet you!

I teach preschool and we have about 15 minutes every morning that is designated to a sing/dance showoff. The kids get to be themselves, show their creativity, have fun and laugh at themselves. We are teaching them not to care what others think of them. Our current favorite dance song is “Choo Choo Soul”. We love silly, fun music and would LOVE to add more to our collection!

We are big Dan Zanes fans at our house – I think “Jump Up” is our favorite, because the little ones like to pretend they are jumping (they are too little to actually jump!). Thanks for the giveaway!

We are always singing and listening to music around the house and in the car. I try to get my 2 y.o. son to listen to “my music” but most often we are listening to kids music so we are always looking for new music that is parent friendly.
We are very fond of Elizabeth Mitchell and have been singing “Little Bird” a lot.

We haven’t bought any new kids music in a while but Claudia likes to sing “Moon Moon Moon” by Laurie Berkner to Christian when she is putting him to sleep. He sometimes sings it to us while playing around the house.
