The 4th, And now the 5th…

July 6, 2014 by Elaine

I mentioned on Facebook that this last weekend, 5 years ago, we moved.

A lot has changed in those 5 years, but especially my kids.

I mean, one of them wasn’t even born yet when we came to Louisiana.

Every year at this time when I think about this anniversary,  I marvel at how much has changed in our lives.

I think about how I really did not want to come here and honestly, I never thought we’d end up living here this long.

I remember when we came to Louisiana to look for a place to live and Tim made a comment while we were driving around, “Who knows, maybe we’ll end up living here for 20 years.”  Well, we are a fourth of the way there…

The boys and I drove in the Friday before the 4th with my mother-in-law, and two days after Tim arrived first.  The house was full of boxes and in a complete shambles (in my eyes).  I have no idea how my nesting instinct did not make me lose my mind.  I guess the fact that I had two little ones to take care of probably helped with that.

We didn’t really celebrate the 4th that first year.  We literally woke up in a new place on the first morning, that holiday morning, and I had no idea where anything red, white and blue was, for anyone to wear or to celebrate with.  If I recall we started unpacking and probably got some pizza.

But the last four years we have celebrated the birth and independence of our nation (except last year, we were in Canada at the time) and the photos, just like any holiday every year, show how quickly kids grow.

I hope you all had a happy and safe 4th.

God Bless America, land that I love.

Happy 5 years, I love all the pictures of the kids. We didn’t get a 4th of July picture this year, I think it’s the first time we missed doing one. But it rained and most of the towns celebrated on the 5th, so I think I get a pass this year.

Love the throwback shots. I take them of the kids on our street every year at the 4th of July block party and looking back to 2006 when we first moved here is so awesome.

5 years so makes a huge difference, doesn’t it? I remember when you moved too! That’s just crazy!

It’s funny, I don’t think about the “anniversary” of us buying our house or moving to Atlanta except when people ask how long we’ve lived here! And, then I’m like “holy cow, it’s been 11 years!”
